THE NUBRA VALLEY

Also known as Little Tibet-One of the most exciting areas in Ladakh, The Nubra Valley is approached after crossing Khardung La (17,300 feet) the second highest motorabel pass in the world. This valley is gateway to Siachen glacier - the largest valley glacier of the world (80 Kms). The famous silk route also passes through this valley up to Panamik hot springs from where it turns east over Saser La & then goes on to Karakoram pass and Central Asia. Nubra valley houses some of the finest and remotest monasteries. Popularly known as "Hermit Kingdom". Ladakh is a land of snow carved peaks, translucent Lakes, barren terrain and mystic culture. Quite like Tibet it has a great Buddhist tradition which is evident from the high monk to people
ratio of 1:8. It has about 13 major Gompas(monasteries) of which HEMIS is considered the Gompa Of Gompas. It has the patronage of the Royal Family. It is the most important monastery of Ladakh & every year in the month of June, the famous "Hemis festival" is held, which attracts a large numbers of foreign tourists. Alchi - a little village, 70 km from Leh in Jammu & Kashmir, is known as a jewel among the religious sites in Ladakh. Abandoned centuries ago this monastery is lovingly maintained by the monks at Likir, the nearest functioning Gompa. It is popularly known as Chos-kar (religious enclave) and comprises of 5 temples which are perhaps the richest in their collection of paintings and images in the Du -Khang (the Assembly Hall), and the three storied Sum-Tsek. Its murals dating back to the 11th and 12th Centuries, pre date the Tibetan style of painting which is found in all other Gompas and are presumed to be the almost the sole survivor of the Buddhist style, currently in Kashmir during the first millenium AD.

DAY 1 ARRIVE LEH

On arrival, transfer to SAMBHA LA hotel. After Lunch walking tour of the city to get
acclimatized to the altitude, as the air is very thin here. Return to hotel for dinner & overnight

DAY 2 AT LEH

Morning after breakfast, proceed for Half day sightseeing of tour of Tsemo Gompa, Leh Palace
and Sankar Gompa. Afternoon lunch and balance time is at leisure. Dinner & Overnight at hotel

DAY 3 LEH > HEMIS > SHEY > THIKSEY > LEH

Morning after breakfast, proceed for Full day monestary tour with guide and picnic lunch to
Shey/Thiksey & Hemis / Monastery's. Return to hotel for Dinner & overnight.

DAY 4 LEH > ALICHI > LEH

Morning after breakfast proceed for full day excursion to the famous Alchi monastery
visiting Likir Gompa enroute. Packed lunch enroute. Return to hotel for dinner & overnight

DAY 5 LEH > KHARDUNGLA > DISKIT

Morning after breakfast, Morning after breakfast drive to Diskit - Gateway to Nubra Valley
The road to goes through world's highest motorable pass Khardung la (5602 mts.). Passing
through Khalsar, taking the left fork on the road cross the Shyok river over a sturdy bridge
you reach Lha-ri-mo North. Set up Camp for Dinner and Overnight in TENTS or GUEST HSE

DAY 6 DISKIT

Morning after breakfast, visit Diskit monastry. After lunch, visit the Hunder Fort and the Hunder village.
They are believed to be from the original Aryan race. Dinner & Overnight in TENTS or GUEST HSE

DAY 7 DISKIT > KHAGAR > SUMUR > PANAMIC

Morning after breakfast, proceed to Panamik, enroute visiting Khagar Village & Samstanling
monastries. Panamik is a small village famous for centuries for its hot water springs, which are
worth visiting. Samstanling is an old Monastery (150 years) in another small village Sumur, along
the Nubra river. It is a pretty place worth exploring. After lunch, day free for personal activities.
Return for dinner & Overnight in TENTS or GUEST HSE

DAY 8 PANAMIC > LEH

Morning after a leisurly breakfast, Drive back to Leh. On arrival check into SHAMBA - LA hotel.
After lunch, visit the local market for last minute shopping of Tibetain handicrafts/ thankhas
and other curious. Return to hotel for Dinner & Overnight

DAY 9 LEH > DELHI

Morning after breakfast, at leisure till time for transfer to airport to connect flight to Delhi

You have the option of extending your stay in Delhi and visit Agra & Jaipur
