Seldom
has any culture been so deeply and so consistently associated with animals
and trees. Religious belief, mythology
& folklore combined to invest them with a sanctity that was reiterated
throughout history and endures even today.
A very good example of this is the `Panchatantra' written by Vishnu Sharma. The
Panchatantra used various animals
and our own culture-conditioned perceptions about them (eg.the jackal is
mean, the turtle and dove constant, etc.etc)
Thus, the world of nature functions as a metaphor for the human world. It
is the basic image in the text and is
employed consistently to sustain and convey the message.
