INDIA A trek
into the Himalayas is more than just a mountain walk; it is a journey to
a remote land often far
from
civilisation, a journey of cultural exchange, a journey back in time, a
journey of discovery about others
and
about one's self; above all it is a complete and unique experience which
satisfies adventurous ambitions
and
provides inner fulfilment. Most people return from the Himalayas profoundly
moved by this experience,
but
for some of us it completely changes our lives. The influence it exerts
becomes irresistible and we find
ourselves
longing to make that annual pilgrimage to those most cherished mountains.
Flexibility,independence
& choice. Go when you want, for as long as you want and walk at your
own pace,
only
with the people you choose, and local staff. An English speaking guide
and other friendly staff will look after all your requirements. We will
make things just perfect so that you can enjoy the beauty of surroundings
without worrying about anything. Trekking off the beaten path you are not
expected to carry anything except your personnel water bottle and camera
(unless you want to). The accompanying mules and porters will take care
of your bag and baggage Trekking and mountaineering in the Himalayas are
our main activity, but we also organize

THE WILD & THE ADVENTUROUS ONLY India's
size & diversity provide year around adventure to your options. Nowhere
else in the entire world is there a feature
as prominent
as the Himalayan chain, with some of the world's highest peaks, stretching
3200kms. Himalayas are considered
among the world's
finest and greatest trekking grounds. The mountaineering & trekking
season roughly runs between
April
and November, but some routes are only open for a couple of months,
each year. The Himalayan peaks have
always attracted
mountaineers. The biggest challenge for the climbers are in the Garhwal
Himalayas, the
Zanskar
range in Jammu & Kashmir, Kulu & Lahaul Valley in
Himachal Pradesh.
The
Main
trekking centres in India are Lahaul, Spiti, Kullu and Kangra valleys
in Himachal Pradesh and in northern Uttar Pradesh,
north of Rishikesh,
Darjeeling in West Bengal, Yuksam in Sikkim and Leh & Ladakh in Kashmir
valley. To take a trek in India is
to rediscover
the awesome majesty and beauty of nature. Peninsular India offers natural
beauty of another kind, clothed
in green woodland
and fragrant orchards. A trekker can spot far above in the clear blue sky,
Eagles wheel and bank, Golden Orioles,
Scarlet Minivets
and white-cheeked Bulbuls as they pierce the pure air with their sweet
cries. The spectacle of the snow capped
peaks, glaciers,
pine-forested slopes, rivers and lush meadows of wild flowers cannot be
equaled. Besides being the best way
to discover
these pristine spots, trekking also offers excellent opportunities to view
the flora & fauna, birds, animals
and insect
life. Some remote places in India, which has no mention even in tourist's
books, feels like a genuine discovery
of a lost land
to a trekker. India is the ultimate destination for a trekking holiday,
offering everything from short and easy excursions
to the long
challenges of the snowy peaks.Trekking is comparatively undemanding, requiring
only stamina to walk
long hours
and the mental agility to adapt to an ever-changing spectacular landscapes.
The trekker will encounter rugged
hills &
mountains, green slopes carpeted with wild flowers & ice-cold streams
gurgling over boulders and ground pebbles.
If
major part of your holiday is cultural or heritage touring then, a day
or two of camping with
trekking can be provided in your itinerary, depending on your travel itinerary C'MORE's

About
Trekking in India
Best Time:
Marc/
Aprilh are the best months for low-altitude trekking in the Himalayas.
For high-altitude trekking,
the best months
are May/ June The months of July and August receive heavy rainfall and,
therefore, these months are
not recommended
for the amateur trekkers. The best months for trekking in the Western Ghats
are from December to
April when
the weather is clear and lush greenery surrounds the region.
Permits
and Licenses: Many of the trekking routes
in India crosses through the areas that have been perceived to
be sensitive
for defense purposes by the government of India. Non-Indians are needed
to procure necessary licenses
and permit
to enter these areas. Contact us
for any further information in this regard.
Precautions & Guidence
It
is advisable not to go for unrealistic programs. When chalking out your
program, give sufficient time for
altitude acclimatization.
During the program never try to be too hurried. It can be dangerous.
Decide what you want to participate in: is it high-altitude trekking or
nature walking only? Look for the level of
difficulty
involved in the program and whether your physical fitness is up to the
level of competence required.
Important addresses, phone numbers, and email IDs should be distributed
among the organizers, coordinators, and all the group members.
All the medicines that one may require and other basic surgical equipments
should accompany group.
Divide all the responsibilities among the group members. Each member of
the group should have
proper training
and experience of handling mountaineering equipments.
High-altitude sickness or high-altitude madness is a common phenomenon
among the trekkers and mountaineers.
If you are
participating in these programs for the first time, make yourself aware
of the symptoms and methods to deal with this problem.
It is necessary
for the members of the expedition to know how to deal with altitude sickness,
snow blindness, frostbiting, and sunburning.
All the members should know proper mountaineering guidelines, high-altitude
survival techniques, & first-aid techniques.
Sensitivity to environment and respect of the local culture are some of
the social issues for which all the members of an expedition group
should be counselled
properly. Go away from the campsite for the morning chores. Do not attend
to nature's call within a range of 300 feet from
the water source.
Dig a hole and cover it up after the job is done. If you are using toilet
papers, remember to bury them in the ground.
Do not leave behind anything back in the hills. This is very important.
Please always keep this in mind.
And Finally, ensure that Sufficient ration should be there to take care
of any eventuality.
First a word of warning. Grading systems should only ever be taken as a
guide. Please bear in mind that is up to you to judge your own fitness,
ability and
mental and physical stamina. Please also bear in mind that many of our
trips are in medium to high altitude environments and that the grade can
change dramatically depending upon how well you adapt to this. We will
always inform you if a particular trip will be entering areas where altitude
will be a factor.
Please also
bear in mind thattreks will always be long and hard and taxing.
That is the nature of the beast and as such grades do not take into account
the physcological
effects that 3 weeks walking far removed from showers may have on you!
That said we do not rush, the experience is what it is
about after
all and we don't want to be dashing up and down mountains like some overtestosteroned
cheetah.
To help
you select a trek we have given each trek a grade: Easy, Moderate and
demanding. Of course, every trek is different and unique.
To help you
choose which trek is best for you please contact
us for information and advice as treks can change from year to year.
EASY:
Walking
on good trails with gentle slopes- Usually 4 to 6 hours walking a day,
with the occasional steep path. A walking holiday with plenty of
cultural interest
and interaction with local people. Varied and fun. -this is suitable for
most people in good health. The altitudes will generally not exceed
3500m with
days designed to allow you time for wildlife watching, sight-seeing and
appreciating the beauty of the valleys and mountains.
MODERATE:
Most
of our treks fall in to this category and it is typical of trekking in
the Himalayas. More remote country and the occasional 6
or 7-hour day,
but not more than 5 days consecutive walking. Relatively low-altitude treks,
crossing passes of no more than 4,300m/14,000ft.
A reasonable
level of fitness is required with the confidence to cope with some longer,
more difficult days.
DEMANDING:
Up
to 7 days consecutive walking through wild country, including high passes
(sometimes snow-covered) between
3,660m/ 12,000ft
and 4,900m/ 16,000 ft. Going up to this kind of height is demanding on
the body. A good level of fitness is desirable for your
enjoyment of
these treks as is a good confidence in high altitude walking
STRENUOUS
:
Challenging long distance treks for
the fit enthusiast. Occasionally more than 7 days consecutive walking,
but all
treks have
rest days interspersed. Each trek crosses at least one pass of over 4,900m/16,000
ft. Often very rarely visited areas.
